The Los Angeles Lakers’ prolonged downward spiral may soon be coming to an end. Anthony Davis wants a trade with the Lakers an early favorite to land him, and now LeBron James could be back as soon as Thursday.

According to a report from the Los Angeles Times’ Tania Ganguli, the Lakers are optimistic that their superstar will return to the court in three days when they face off against the Los Angeles Clippers in a key game with playoff implications.

James has been out with a groin injury since he left the team’s Christmas Day game against the Golden State Warriors in the second quarter. Since that game, the Lakers have gone 6-10 and fallen from the No. 4 seed in the West to two games out of the eight seed.

James’ availability has been a bit of a mystery lately with his agent, Rich Paul, claiming that he would have been playing two weeks ago if it were the playoffs. Now, he will potentially suit up on the 31st if his body can hold up well during practice. Groin injuries are notoriously hard to come back from because they can easily aggravated.

The Lakers had already been readying for James’ return as he had his first full-contact practice on Saturday since suffering the injury. James even took part in a scrimmage on Monday and put up shots after practice.

Technically, head coach Luke Walton, who remains on the hot seat, has not ruled James out for Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers, but that seems unlikely. But considering how the Lakers’ young players have fared without him, a return against the No. 8 seed Clippers will be crucial to improve upon their playoff odds, which FiveThirtyEight puts at 25 percent.

Controversial man of God, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Ministry Enugu, has visited President Buhari in Abuja.

Father Mbaka and President Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday met behind closed doors with Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Ministry Enugu, at the State House, Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Mbaka, who came into the villa in a private maroon BMW car, was accompanied by a lady.

The outcome of the meeting between the president and Mbaka, which lasted about 35 minutes, was unknown at the time of filing this report.

Mbaka, who did not speak to newsmen after the meeting, was once quoted as saying that “President Buhari is change, but former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is `bureau de change’.’

Abubakar is the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in the forthcoming general elections.

Mbaka was also recently quoted in the social media as calling on Buhari to effect changes in his leadership style to cushion the hardships experienced by citizens.

“So let the will of God be done in Nigeria. It is like what I have been saying Buhari change or you will be changed,’’ he said while addressing members of his Adoration Ministry.

However, Mbaka, during one of his sermons, predicted electoral victory for the president in the forthcoming general elections as he did in 2015.

Drama as lady accuses Twitter slay king of owing her friend money and flaunting for the gram with her possessions

A lady took to Twitter to accuse a popular Twitter slay king of owing her friend money and refusing to pay. Another Twitter user then reached out to the young man in question to get his side of the story.

Ginika said Somto Cody Akanegbu and her friend Cindy Nwachukwu were dating and he scammed her during the relationship and has refused to pay back till date.
She tweeted:
@Somto_FRB you’ve been playing and scamming my friend and I will not let you rest until you pay her the money you owe. You didn’t want to handle this issue privately, so make we take it public.

She went on to accuse Somto of being in the relationship just for her friend's money. She accused him of using her friend's Louis Vuitton purse to pose for clout on social media. She added that her friend paid for his bodybuilding while they were together. Then they went to Disney on a date and Somto claimed his card wasn't working, so her friend paid after he promised to pay back. But he has refused to refund her what he owes her, which in total is $425.
She wrote:

You went to Universal Studios and claimed your card wasn’t working, so Cindy payed for both of you. You said you would pay her back, but when she asks for the money you owe, you either change the topic or don’t respond. Then she pays for your bodybuilding. This totaling in $425

As the drama intensified on Twitter, another Twitter user reached out to Somto to hear his side of the story and he shared their chat on Twitter.
According to screenshots of the chat shared online, Somto revealed that Cindy bought him "Spider man" (believed to be a Toyota Camry) of her own free will and he never asked for it. He shared screenshots of their chat as proof.
He was then asked about the $200 he was allegedly owing her and he explained that they were at Disney in August 2018 and his card didn't work, so she paid. He said he paid her back some of what he owed but didn't pay back the rest because "Na man go dey sort bill 100% everytime?"
He, however, promised to pay back what he owes Cindy following the Twitter backlash.
Meanwhile, social media users have taken to the platform to argue and take sides. Some wondered why Ginika had to bring the issue online when the friend involved chose to handle it quietly off social media.
Some also wondered why a woman who could buy her man a "Spider Toyota Camry?" would be bothered about $200 which he is still owing her.
And there were those who called Somto out for his "Na man go dey sort bill 100% everytime?" reply and said he should have told the lady earlier if he didn't plan to pay, rather than collect her money and refuse to pay back.
See screenshots below.

N19bn Paris Club Scam: Court Adjourns Saraki’s Aide, Makanjuola’s N3.5bn Fraud Trial to March 13

N19bn Paris Club Scam: Court Adjourns Saraki?s Aide, Makanjuola?s N3.5bn Fraud Trial to March 13

Justice Babs Kuewumi of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Thursday, January 10, 2019, adjourned to March 13, 2019, a N3.5bn fraud trial involving Gbenga Makanjuola, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, and three others.

Makanjuola  alongside Kolawole Shittu, cashier to Senate; Robert Chidozie Mbonu, a former Managing Director, Societe Generale Bank of Nigeria, SGBN (at large),  Melrose General Services Limited and Obiora Amobi, Operation Manager,  Melrose General Services Limited were arraigned on October 3, 2018 on an amended 11-count charge bordering on alleged conspiracy, accepting cash payment beyond threshold and money laundering to the tune of N3.5billion ((Three Billion, Five Hundred Million Naira) only.

One of the counts reads: “That you, Gbenga Makanjuola, sometime in December 2016 in Nigeria, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did accept cash payment of the sum of $500, 000. 00 (Five Hundred Thousand Dollars) only from   Kolawole Shittu without going through a financial institution and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(a) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act, 2011 (as amended by Act No. 1 of 2012) and punishable under Section 16 (2) (b) of the same Act.”

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them. Consequently, the prosecution counsel, Ekene Iheanacho, had asked for a trial date and also prayed the court to remand the defendants in prison custody.

The prosecution counsel had also urged the court to refuse the bail applications filed by the defence counsels on behalf of their clients. Justice Kuewumi had, therefore, adjourned to October 9, 2019 for ruling on the bail applications.

In his ruling, Justice Kuewumi had granted the defendants bail in the sum of N250m each on October 9, 2018 and adjourned till December 4, 2018 for commencement of trial. At the resumed hearing today, Justice Kuewumi announced that he had been transferred to the Sokoto State Division.

"I have been posted out of Lagos State to Sokoto State. I can’t open a matter that will not be concluded. So, we have to adjourn the matter”, the Judge had said.

However, in his submission, counsel to the prosecution, Iheanacho, told the court that the matter was adjourned to today for the prosecution to open its case. “My Lord, I am ready to proceed with the trial”, he further stated.

Counsel to the first defendant, K. T. Olawuni, as well as counsel to the third defendant, Omeoga Chukwu, said they were also ready to proceed with the trial. Also, counsel to the second and fourth defendants, Paul Erokoro, SAN, said he was ready to proceed with the trial.

Erokoro, however, said that the prosecuting counsel had just served him with an additional proof of evidence. “My Lord, I need time to go through it very well,” he pleaded. Justice Kuewumi thereafter, adjourned the matter to March 13 for mention.

VIDEO 8 yr old boy impaled by tree branch walked sister home before collapsing

A plum picking expedition nearly ended in tragedy for an 8-year-old boy who was impaled through the chest by a tree branch, which reportedly missed his heart by mere millimeters. Suresh Sakaram, of Pati, India, reportedly lost his footing while climbing a plum tree on Wednesday and fell onto a branch below, according to SWNS.

The tree branch, which measured 52-centimeters, went straight through his chest and out of his back. The fall broke several of the boy’s ribs and injured his lung, SWNS reported. However, despite his severe injuries, the boy allegedly managed to stand up and walk his 6-year-old sister hand back to their house before he collapsed.

He was then rushed to a hospital in Indore, where he underwent surgery and is reported to be “out of danger,” according to SWNS.

“Surgery of this child was challenging because the sharp wood stick was penetrating near vital organs, heart lungs, and liver,” Dr. Sashi Shankar Sharma, a pediatric surgeon, told SWNS. “Only part of the right lung and rib cage were harmed and were successfully repaired.”  Sharma told the news outlet that Suresh is “doing well.”

DSS begins trial of John Elem, who was accused of attempting to print counterfeit naira notes worth N20bn

The Department of State Services has commenced the trial of one Mr John Elem, who was accused of attempting to print counterfeit naira notes, worth N20bn.
Elem was charged before Justice Saliu Saidu at the Federal High Court in Lagos and the prosecuting counsel for the DSS, E.K. Ugwu, said the defendant violated the provisions of “the Counterfeit Currency Offences Act, 2004.”
At the opening of trial in the case today, the DSS Principal Officer in Charge of Investigation at the agency’s Ikoyi, Lagos office, Peter Uche, testified as the first prosecution witness against Edem. Uche, while being led in evidence by the prosecutor, Ugwu, told the court that the DSS received a petition against Edem in December 2016.
He said the petition, authored by one Mr Francis Okowa, was delivered to him in his office on December 7, 2016, about 4pm from the law firm of Mr Rickey Tarfa (SAN). According to the witness, the petitioner, a client of Rickey Tarfa’s chamber, alleged in his petition that the defendant, Edem, was plotting to print naira notes, worth N20bn.
“Based on the petition, I went to my director and immediately a team was constituted to identify and arrest him (Edem). The following day, around 2pm, we were able to apprehend the suspect along Governor’s Drive, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi.
The team was split into two; one to go and search his house while the other was to search his company. I led the team that went to his house on Banana Island in the evening of the same day. We went into the house; we recovered items that we believe support the petition. Some of the items we recovered were 92 pieces of golden colour holograms, a textbook and handbooks on how to print currencies. We also recovered a manual numbering machine” Uche told the judge.
He added that he took two statements from Edem on December 9 and 11, 2016, adding that though the defendant denied the allegation, the items recovered from his house supported the petitioner’s claims against him.
Justice Saidu admitted in evidence the 92 pieces of golden colour holograms, which the witness said were recovered from the closet in Edem’s master bedroom. The judge equally admitted in evidence a textbook with the title, ‘Optical Document on Security,’ and the handbooks said to contain instructions on how to print currencies and the manual numbering machine.
The two statements by the defendant were also admitted as exhibits. The defence lawyer, Idris Faro, sought an adjournment to cross-examine the witness. Justice Saidu adjourned till Tuesday for further proceedings.

Jumia launches late-night food delivery service

In its bid to meet the demand of its customers, an online shop, Jumia’s marketplace for restaurants, said it has launched a late-night delivery service to enable customers order food up until midnight.

Managing Director of Jumia’s marketplace, Mr Guy Futi who disclosed this in Lagos recently said they have introduced the late-night delivery service to accommodate customers who order food at night.

He noted that the late night delivery combined with initiatives like greater customer accessibility, more payment options, more locations, lunchtime deals, seasonal deals and new related products (Jumia Party) has led to over 120 per cent increase in the volume of their orders in Jumia.

Speaking on efforts to ensure quick delivery of foods ordered on the platform, Futi said:  “We have made it possible for orders to be picked up by the rider closest to a restaurant’s location. With this, we can deliver orders to the customer’s doorstep within 40 minutes and interestingly, the delivery process can be tracked right from the time when the customer places the order to the moment the order is delivered.”

Also speaking, the Head of Marketing and Vendor Success for the Marketplace, Chioma Odimegwu, promised that operational efficiency will be an integral part of the company’s focus in 2019.

Her words: “In 2019, we are looking forward to welcoming a new and exciting restaurant/vendor on board within the month.

“We will also be engaging new partnerships across other industries to provide added value to customers, onboarding more restaurants with longer and later open hours, more focus on corporate catering offerings, encouraging closer relationships with our customers and restaurant vendors.”

The 30-year-old suspect, who is a native of Okene in Kogi State and was alleged to have killed over 200 persons before his arrest told Vanguard that a radical Islamic cleric, who he identified as Mallam Mustapha indoctrinated him into the deadly sect.

He explained that Mallam Mustapha came into Okene with his teachings, built a mosque in 2009 and urged residents to shun western education as it was a sin against Allah, and urged them to accept Islamic education which he said was the only education accepted by Allah.

He added that he attended several of Mallam Mustapha’s teachings, who he said also urged his followers to disregard the Nigeria State and wage war against her as her system of government was not in line with the dictates of Allah, which he said, ought to be in an Islamic fashion.

Abudulmalik, further explained that he joined some of Mallam Mustapha’s followers in destroying their school certificates and he accepted to wage war against the Nigeria State.

We robbed banks to sustain the jihad
“I joined one of the Boko Haram cells in Okene headed by one Zeeidi and we carried out several bombings within Kaduna, Kano and Abuja. Zeeidi was the person providing the bombs and my job then was to take them to our target locations. After a while, the Department of State Security infiltrated our cell and they started arresting members of our group. Mallam Mustapha was arrested and his mosque was demolished.

Zeedi brought the idea of bank robbery so that those of us who have not been arrested could have resources to continue with the jihad. He brought some guns and he suggested we should attack the Kotonkarfe Prison in Kogi State, so we could free our members who were detained there. The attack on the prison was successful and we freed a lot of our members, after which we attacked some banks in Okene and took all the money we could find there.

“We then moved to Owo where we robbed some of the banks with dynamites and carted away large sums of money. We used some of the money we made from those robberies to buy high explosives including materials we could use in producing non-metallic bombs that could beat metal detectors. A lot of our members including Zeedi were arrested after those bank robberies and the attack on prison.

Then, I moved to Abuja with the bombs we produced and I formed a new cell in 2014. We carried out several bombings in the Fedeal Capital territory including those at Banex Plaza, Nyanya and Kuje areas of Abuja. Unfortunately our gang was busted and five of our gang members were arrested while our bombs, including the non-metallic and the materials we were using in making them were recovered. I escaped, fled to Kano and I went underground for two years before I returned to Abuja and formed a new gang and we went into full blown armed robbery.”

Meanwhile, Police source disclosed that five months after the operatives of the IRT, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, launched investigations into the gruesome killing of seven policemen and a civilian, in July 2018 at a police post on the Galadima Roundabout, Abuja, they made a breakthrough when they arrested a member of the gang identified as Lukman Abdulmalik alias Lampard, through a tip off in Ondo State and he confessed taking part in the killing of the seven policemen.

He went on to identify Abudlmalik, as the leader of his gang, who he said instructed them to always kill policemen whenever they had opportunity and take their rifles.

The police source disclosed further that the suspect took the IRT operatives to their hideout in Abuja and four of his gang members identified as Abubakar Bello Sidi, Yusuf Abdulazeez alias, Fine Boy, Suleman Zakariya and Haruna Lamid, were arrested but, Abdulmalik, escaped with a bullet wound. Four AK-47 rifles belonging to the deceased policemen, six magazines, 270 rounds of AK-47 ammunition and two police walkie talkie radios belonging to the deceased policemen were recovered from the suspects.

 It was gathered that Abdulmalik ran to Lagos with his bullet wound to the home of his younger sister who was a nurse and he started receiving treatments on his bullet wound. Unknown to him, IRT operatives in Lagos had information that he had a sister who was residing in Lagos, they trailed him to her house, found him sleeping there and apprehended him. My robbery exploits — Abdulmalik Narrating his robbery exploits Abdulmalik said;

“After I formed my new robbery gang, we robbed a woman of N500,000, which was the money she got from contribution she had with some women. One of our gang members who got information about the money told me about it and we robbed the woman and took the money. We also robbed a man at Okene checking point, we pretended to be policemen and collected N1.3million from the man.

We then moved to Abuja where we robbed super markets including their customers. We killed a policeman at Shoprite in Suleja and took away his rifle. We also robbed a shop along Second Gate on the Abuja-Kaduna Road. There was this dismissed policeman known as Apin-Iron, who was dismissed for taking part in armed robbery. Iron has two Ak-47 and a pistol which he normally used to intercept and seize illicit drugs from people trying to smuggle them into Abuja.

We normally visited his place to buy the drugs and we became friends. In one of our visits he told us that he knew several rich people we could rob and all we needed to do was to give him his share of the loot.

He gave us information of a man from whom we took N5million and we gave our contact N2.5m as his share because that was what he demanded. He also gave us several other jobs before I had an accident and damaged one of my eyes. There was one Mustapha who was an internet fraudster, he was making money, but he started having issues with some cultists in his area so he brought in the police to arrest the boys. But the boys were later released and came back to harass him.

So, he came to me and requested for my boys to protect him and I told him he would have to buy my boys two Ak-47 rifles. He agreed and bought us the guns. Then, my boys, Lampard and Abubakar, started moving around with him in military uniforms. People who saw them would think they were genuine soldiers. So, he wanted my boys to kill the cultists as well as the nurse who was treating him because the nurse entered his house and saw him performing rituals and he didn’t want the woman to tell people that he was using charms to make his money.

My boys told me about the job and I asked them not to kill anyone, then he became angry with me. I suspect he was the person who went to inform the police about my gang.

“After I lost my eyes I was admitted in the hospital but my boys were still going for robberies and would bring money to me after each robbery.

I wasn’t with them when they killed the seven policemen at Galadima roundabout, I was in the hospital. After I was discharged, I had not gone for any robbery operation with them but the police later arrested Lampard and Abubakar and they brought the policemen to my house.

I had an Ak-47 rifle with me when the police came and I fired some shots which made it easy for me to escape but the police returned fire and I got injured. I managed to escape to Iyana Sango Ota, Ogun State, where my sister was residing. I later learned that the police went on to arrest Fine-Boy and Abubakar and Suleiman, a guy known as scorpion called and informed me. I don’t know how the police knew I was in my sister’s place, they found me sleeping and I was arrested.” he narrated.

Football legend, Diego Maradona 'to undergo surgery after doctors detect internal bleeding in his stomach'

Diego Maradona is reportedly set to undergo surgery in Argentina after suffering from a stomach bleed.

Football legend,?Diego Maradona

The 58-year old football legend had failed to show up for training at Mexican side Dorados where he is now a coach. It has now emerged that he has been admitted after internal bleeding in his stomach was detected during a routine check up.

Maradona was undergoing routine examinations in his homeland before returning to Mexico, where he is coach of second division side Dorados de Sinaloa, when doctors discovered the problem.

Argentine sports newspaper Ole said he would have an endoscopy at a clinic in Olivos, on the outskirts of the capital Buenos Aires with children Gianna, Janita and Diego Jr at his side.

The severity of his condition was not known and the hospital has made no official statement.

The health scare is the latest for Maradona, who has suffered frequent hospital stays over the years, often due to the extravagant lifestyle that helped make him one of the most admired and iconic footballers of the 20th century.  He last fell ill at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where he was filmed passing out in an executive box at the Argentina-Nigeria game.

Maradona was hospitalised in 2004 with severe heart and respiratory problems linked to cocaine use. He later underwent drug rehabilitation in Cuba and Argentina before a stomach-stapling operation in 2005 helped him lose weight.

In 2007 he checked himself into a clinic in Buenos Aires to help him overcome alcohol abuse problems. In recent months he has walked with the aid of crutches due to problems with his knees.

The Jigawa State police command has said a 40- year-old-man, Abdullahi Jafaru, attempted to commit suicide after his wife, Halima, refused to return home following a dispute.

According to a report by PremiumTimes, Abdullahi poured petrol on himself and set himself ablaze in Shunar, Kafin Hausa LGA of the State.

The Jigawa police spokesperson, Audu Jinjiri, said on December 31, 2018, Halima left her matrimonial home because of a misunderstanding with her husband. Jinjiri said attempts made by Jafaru to convince Halima, his first of two wives, to return were unsuccessful. The couple reportedly have six children together.

Not being able to convince his wife, a troubled Jafaru then poured petrol on himself and set himself ablaze. He was, however, rescued and rushed to the hospital. But while still on the sick bed receiving treatment, Jafaru has continued calling Halima’s name, even though his second wife remains with him at the hospital taking care of him.

We will not be distracted by 2019 general election – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Thursday, declared that it would not be distracted by the 2019 elections in its struggle to revitalise public varsities.

ASUU

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) Prof. Yakub Mahmood, had said that the planned ASUU strike might affect the 2019 general election.

The Chairman of ASUU, University of Ibadan (UI), Dr Deji Omole, stated this on Thursday in an interview with newsmen in Ibadan. Omole said that the union was ready to pursue the strike to a logical conclusion irrespective of whether there would be election or not.

He added that INEC could recruit ad-hoc staff from eligible Nigerians
“who are in their millions’’.

“We are not part of INEC, therefore, INEC can look elsewhere for ad-hoc staff to conduct the election.

“What Nigerians are only interested in is credible election and not participation of lecturers.

“Even when we were not on strike, not all our members are interested in participating in the elections, because it is a voluntary thing. “Whoever that feels like participating in the elections

“Whoever that feels like participating in the elections can go ahead to participate. “If you check in the letter addressed to individuals that have participated in the election in the past, the letter is addressed to individuals and not to ASUU,”

UI ASUU Chairman said. He said that the demand of the union that the MoU of 2017 be implemented was sacrosanct.

Omole said that once the union saw the commitment of government, the leadership would bring it back to them at chapters, where it would be taken to their congresses and redirect to national for necessary action. The UI ASUU chairman urged Nigerians to continue to put pressure on government to do the needful by investing more in funding education.

He said that private education was not an alternative to public schools and called on all Nigerians to support the strike to salvage the university system in Nigeria. (NAN)

I won’t disappoint Nigerians – Buhari

ABUJA – PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari, Thursday, said he would not disappoint Nigerians that have entrusted unto him the leadership of the country.

Buhari

President Buhari said he would be great and appreciate the confidence reposed in him by Nigerians from different walks of life.

He stated this when he was decorated as Grand Patron of the Nigerian Media Merit Award, NMMA, by the Board of Trustees of the prime media awards organization in the country, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He described the investiture as “a timely honour,” adding that he had known a good number of the members of the NMMA board, “since the time I didn’t even know I would be here.” Former Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority, Engr. Vincent Maduka, who led the delegation, said President Buhari was qualified to be grand patron,

“because you respect the rights of the media to practice, without any hindrance.” It was noted that under President Buhari, no media house has been shut, and the first ever campus television license was awarded to the University of Lagos, under the chairmanship of veteran Mass Communication teacher, Professor Ralph Akinfeleye.

Engr. Maduka said the NMMA was established in 1990, to promote excellence in Nigerian media, and has hosted 26 grand award presentations, with the latest holding just a week ago. Part of the goals of NMMA, he added, was the promotion of patriotism, and unity of the country.

30 pregnant women die daily in Zamfara -NMA

 zamfara

The Nigerian Medical Association (MMA), Zamfara State chapter has decried the high rate of mortality rate in the state leading to the death of 30 pregnant women daily during childbirth.

This was contained in a paper presented by the Zamfara chapter Vice Chairman, Dr. Mannir Bature Tsafe at the Town Hall Meeting with governorship candidates with the theme ‘Our Government Our Health’ organised by Advocacy Nigeria in collaboration with WRAPA and Mac Arthur Foundation.

Bature said the state had a record of Women of Child Bearing Age (WCBA) population of 1, 014,136 records 11, 000 Child Maternal Deaths annually and 30 pregnant women death daily due to the gross inadequate manpower and equipment coupled with inadequate funding by the government.

He lamented that Zamfara State, with a population of 4.7 million, according to the 2017 projection spread across the 14 local government areas, has only 345 medical doctors with 270 of them, representing 78 per cent, concentrated in Gusau, the state capital, leaving the other 13 local government areas with over four million people with just 75 doctors.

“If not for donor agencies’ intervention, health care would have collapsed in Zamfara,” he said.
The Project Officer, Advocacy Nigeria, Mrs. Larai Jibrin Ahmed, chided the government for not paying deserved attention to the health sector, which she said has made the country to fall below the World Health Organisation (WHO) standard.

Ahmed said Nigeria was rated 187 out of 191 countries in terms of health care delivery with the third highest numbers of maternal mortality in the world.

“Sadly as of 2014, Zamfara State was worse in even shape with 1025 deaths for every 100,000 live birth, which is
449 more deaths than the average for the country,” she said.

Ahmed decried that Nigeria has never met African Union (AU) benchmark for health, which is 15 per cent of a country budget as the federal government in 2018 budget allocated N340 billion, representing 3.9 per cent of the N8.6 Trillion budget.

“In Zamfara, the story is not much different. In 2017, the state allocated N5.1 billion (5.3 per cent) of its budget to health and in 2018, the same N5 billion was allocated for health even when the overall total of the budget increased from N115 Billion to N130 billion,” she said.

In his welcome address, the state coordinator, Advocacy Nigeria, Malam Rabiu Sambo, said the town hall meeting was to enable governorship candidates for 2019 elections to intimate people with their plans for sustainable health care delivery in the state, saying good health was paramount to development.

The four governorship candidates who attended the town hall promised to ensure that the health sector gets desired attention, with the view to providing qualitative health care delivery in the state.
